First of all... WELCOME! to the Sacramento Animal Hospital Website  Whether you are currently a client with us, looking for a new midtown Sacramento veterinarian or just curious, we hope that you will find this web site helpful and informative.

Sacramento Animal Hospital dates back to World War II when two doctors, the Meyers brothers, built it. At that time it served primarily as a large animal practice as most of the Sacramento area was still farmland. The brothers ran the hospital and established an excellent reputation for quality care over the next forty years.

In April of 1985 it was sold to two doctors: Candace Sousa and Laurel Collins, who continued the tradition of outstanding care as the hospital and the Sacramento area grew. 

In 1994 it was again sold, this time to doctors Karen Mulvihill and Cynthia Norman. Since then it has progressively grown.

In 1999 a massive renovation was undertaken, nearly doubling the hospitals size and greatly increasing its workload capacity. The ability to provide better quality care for our patients has also increased with the addition of a comprehensive in-house lab, a dental x-ray unit, an ultra sound unit, and other state of the art diagnostic equipment.

Our mission is to continue the more than 60-year tradition of providing the finest care available to our patients while supporting and educating the clients to be the best owners they can be. As medicine changes and advances in the new century, so will we. We recognize and respect the close bond between owner and pet. It's this bond that motivates the owner to find the best care possible and we honor that philosophy.

Currently we have five (5) doctors (see their pictures and credentials), ten (10) technicians, and five (5) receptionists. We also have available to us, on an On-Call basis: a board certified Ultra Sound Specialist, a board certified Radiologist, and a board certified Surgeon.

Sacramento Animal Hospital is dedicated to supporting and giving back to the community in which it thrives. 

We give free exams to all animals in the Canine Companions for Independence program, an organization that trains canine companions for the disabled. We give discounted initial exams to all pets from Sacramento County Animal Control, SPCA, and Happy Tails, an adoption organization for cats. We also donate regularly to The Mercer Clinic, an organization that helps the homeless care for their pets. 

We also assist Great Pyrenees Rescue of Northern California, Inc and Bassett Hound Rescue by offering discounted services.
